Main activities in VIANOVA are model demonstrations in the area "Health & everyday mobility" by enhancing physical active mobility in public space as well as the wide dissemination of this topic to target groups in the Alpine Space. The pilot demonstrations will be implemented on three levels, the project partners will cooperate in the development of the different actions on a transnational basis and will implement these measures in their regions.
Level 1: Improving objective possibilities for more physical activity in public space (air quality, infrastructure, organisation, intermodality)
The demonstration in Weiz includes improved accessibility & reduced distances for pedestrians & bikers by diminishing barriers; CTB and Bolzano integrate public transport with biking & walking to create an intermodal system.
Besides infrastructural and organisational improvements, VIANOVA secures high air quality and takes measures especially against particulate matters (PM10). The province of Bolzano is leading in EU with their far reaching policies to regulate car traffic during high emission periods. They will be further developed within VIANOVA and transferred to the other partners.
Level 2: Improving the perception of public space and of mobility choices
Objective offers and improvements are just as good as they are reflected in the mental maps of potential users of public space.
The goal of the bike system „Corporate Cycling“ in Bolzano is the improved perception of biking. With this system, Bolzano manages to attract tourists & occasional users. Trento and VCL, who are focusing on emotional approaches, will apply bicycle measures. In Weiz, this measure will be implemented as a follower-city and accomplished by a bike route planner via the internet. The city of Thun will improve the perception of pedestrian networks by introducing a pedestrian guidance system. The „walking miles“, which will be tested in Weiz, aim to enhance the perceived quality of walking by providing small experiences aside the footpaths. A programme at the bus stops in Besançon shall lead to a reduction in the perceived waiting time.
Level 3: User motivation, incentives for new target groups, activities to stabilise behaviour for increased bike usage and walking
The AOK Bavaria developed a successful, fun action to promote biking to work. This competition will be adapted and transferred to the other project areas and will be extended in the Bavarian project area towards "Buy a Bike". The program "Biker of the week" is an instrument to enhance the image and can be easily copied. The planned recipes for physical activity and mobility in everyday life, which are planned by the Weiz medical doctors are an innovative approach to reach citizens. The programme developed in Thun "be mobile, stay mobile" trains senior citizens (50+) in using public transport and bike with the goal to keep their independent mobility as long as possible.
