
Actual problems to be faced in the alpine space:
• Increasing air pollution and particulate matters caused by car transport
• Worsening quality of public space because of infrastructures for motorized mobility
• Short distances are disappearing, not only in the perception, in favour of long distances reachable only by car. As a consequence the car modal split is constantly increasing.
• Insufficient physical activity has become one of the main causes for early death
These problems have severe impacts on citizens & economy, as is reflected in the following casualty figures (aggregated data from F, CH and A):
The VIANOVA project aims at:
• Improving public space for walking and cycling
• Improving subjective perceptions of public space
• Influencing user motivation towards a change in everyday mobility
• Linking health & traffic.
• Transnational cooperation and collaboration in cities/regions on a public-private partnership basis, leading to concrete planning and implementation instruments
• Developing tools in close cooperation with other related projects
• Disseminating know-how by trainings, distance learning, handbook, brochures, website, CD ROM
